Let’s get right down to it. I’m going to share with you how to transform your dreams into attainable goals and objectives – then I’m going to share the Rule that gets you there, to the law firm – and life – you love.
Here’s How to Transform Your Dreams into Goals and Objectives
First, identify your breakthrough goal. This is the goal that when attained will change your life. What is that goal? Creating $$$ in law firm profit? Starting your own firm? Running a 1/2 marathon? Taking 30 days away from your office? You get to pick. Identify your goal and then go through the process outlined below.
My Breakthrough Goal
My Vision. How would your life change as a result of accomplishing this goal? How does your life look and feel having attained your breakthrough goal? Describe the emotions you’re experiencing. Describe your life with all senses.
My Goals and Objectives. Keeping in mind this is your breakthrough goal, here is where you document how much and by when. You need to be super specific such as my law firm will have a $500k run rate by June 1, 2019, at 5 pm ET. Or, I will weigh 135 pounds by February 15th at 12 pm ET.
My Affirmations. I suggest you use affirmations at least twice a day. An affirmation is in the present tense, appreciating your goal as already achieved. “I’m so happy and grateful that now”….stating your breakthrough goal. When you’re repeating your affirmations, visualize your breakthrough goal as having already been achieved and feel the emotions you’ll feel. For example, “I’m so happy and grateful that I published my book” or “I am so happy and grateful that I own a 3,000 square foot house in Scottsdale.”
My Next Steps. You might not see the entire staircase, but jot down the next steps that you do see. What will you do and by when? If you need help identifying or achieving those next steps, then get it.
Rule of 5
Here’s where we carry through those next steps. To reach your breakthrough goal, do five things each day to get you closer to that goal. As Robert Collier observes, “Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.
Even the biggest goal will be eventually reached if you take five swings at it a day. Such a simple, but incredibly effective concept. Jack Canfield uses the analogy of a large tree. If you would take five swings at that tree with a very sharp ax, you would eventually fell the tree. True of your breakthrough goal as well. With consistency, you’ll get there.
Each evening – or the beginning of the week – jot down your list. What five things are you going to do each day to move toward your breakthrough goal?
It helps to have an accountability partner. Someone who you’ll chat with on the phone each morning for no more than five minutes. You’ll report that you either did or didn’t do the five things you promised the day before and share the five things you’ll do that day. In our own minds, we can rationalize and make excuses for not getting things done, but when you have to face your partner day in and day out, you’ll get things done.
Your Action Steps
I invite you to complete the process above to, first, transform your dream into your breakthrough goal and then, second, move toward that goal a bit each day using the Rule of 5 to get you there. Document those 5 things and check them off as you go.
I believe in you. You got this!
P.S. If you’re nodding yes, if you’re ready to go from pain to gain, if you have the vision of building a million-dollar+ law firm but don’t know how to get there, let’s chat about where you are and where you want to go. Set up your Breakthrough Strategy Session here.
