I’m not in it for the money. I’m new. My clients can’t afford that. I want them to hire me. I don’t need to charge those rates. I feel bad for them. Where I live, people won’t pay that. I could never charge that much. Nobody would pay that much. I can’t raise my fees with current clients.
What a Crock of B.S.
When you charge less than the value you provide, you’re literally STEALING from your family. For every $1 you undercharge, that’s a $1 less for your retirement, your children’s education, your family’s enjoyment and well-being, other business ventures, and investing in yourself and your business.
It’s the Same with Time
Every time you give away free legal advice, not only are you stealing from your family and yourself financially, but you’re also stealing time. We all only have 168 hours a week. When you give that time away by allowing project creep, not being able to say no, or offering to do more, more, more, you’re stealing time from your family.
Put a picture of your family, the university your child wants to attend, your retirement dream, you on a massage table, or your dream house where you can see it when you’re on the phone and meeting with clients. With every fee quoted and legal question answered without compensation, observe the consequences of those actions.
Stealing from Law Partners
And, it’s the same with your law partners. If you have law partners and you’re not practicing good business, you are literally stealing from them as well. Not cool.
Charging based on the value you provide is key to your success – and everyone else’s as well.
You got this!
